A provocative and wholly unique hybrid of dance, theatre and music, FELA! explores the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), FELA! reveals Kuti’s controversial life as an artist and political activist. Featuring many of Fela Kuti’s most captivating songs and Bill T Jones’s visionary staging, this original new creation has come via Broadway to the National Theatre. In New York it was the winner of three 2010 Tony Awards including Best Choreography.

FELA! tells the true story of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, whose soulful and stirring Afrobeat rhythms ignited a generation. Inspired by his mother, a civil rights champion, he defied a corrupt and oppressive military government and devoted his life and music to the struggle for freedom and human dignity.

FELA! is a triumphant tale of courage, passion and love, featuring Fela Kuti’s captivating music, and the visionary direction and Tony Award-winning choreography of Bill T Jones.

Featuring a new cast for the London production lead by Sahr Ngaujah (winner of the Obie Award for his performance as Fela Kuti) and including Paulette Ivory and Melanie Marshall.
