First performed in 1677 and updated in 1998 by Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, Phèdre draws its inspiration from Greek mythology. Consumed by uncontrollable passion for her young stepson and believing her husband, Theseus, to be dead, Phèdre confesses her darkest desires and enters the world of nightmare. When Theseus returns alive and well, Phèdre, fearing exposure, accuses her stepson of rape. The result is nothing short of carnage. Phèdre: Helen Mirren (The Queen), Hippolytus: Dominic Cooper (The History Boys), Oenone: Margaret Tyzack Director: Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys, The Madness of King George)
