The Edge of Heaven

Fatih Akin's latest film is about a father, son, mother, daughter, and the gulf between Germany and Turkey, between West and Islam, between repentance and forgiveness.

A college professor, Nejat, travels from Hamburg to Istanbul to find Ayten, the Turkish daughter of his father's friend who he wants to help financially. He learns later that she was deported from Germany for her activism and has since become a political prisoner. Ayten's German friend Lotte and her mother Susanne become entangled in the consequences.

Fatih Akin is a German film director of Turkish descent. He made his first film, Short Sharp Shock in 1998, followed by several others including Crossing the Bridge. He won the Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival for his 2004 critically acclaimed film Head On.
